Lessons from Olakunle Soriyan at #LiveYourDreamsAfrica Conference 2.0

On the 26th of April, I was at an event in Lagos tagged #LiveYourDreamsAfrica, an initiative of UK Certified Life Coach, Psychologist, and Management Consultant, Bankole Williams.

The last man that spoke that day is one of the people I’m always eager to hear from and listen to- Olakunle Soriyan, Principal Transformational Strategist at Olakunle Soriyan Company. He made three points on living your dreams, and I want to share with you, my precious reader, from my notes. Fly with me….

The first thing about living your dreams is actually understanding and being clear and certain of your dreams- that your dream really is your dream. You should be sure of what your dreams really are, and that you are not copying someone’s dream, probably because that person is popular, or making much money from living her dreams. Be sure of what you want to set your life to achieve. How then can one be sure? Myles Munroe said, “purpose determines design”
1. You have got to have a clear-cut understanding of your talents and the skills you’d love to acquire.
2. Your dreams are inbuilt, dig deep by discovering things you are passionate, frustrated, or angry about in the society.
3. Service, Loyalty, and Goodness to ALL is another way given by Mr. Soriyan. Ik Osakioduwa also confirmed this when he said, “If you want to live your dreams, serve someone’s dreams”

The second point after dreaming (clarity) is what I call WAKING UP. You have got to wake up to the reality of your society and environment, and the SYSTEMS by which they operate. When you wake up to this reality, you will discover that it is not as easy as you thought, but guess what? If you DECIDE to continue, device (legitimate) means to live your dreams, and take steps to do such, you will succeed. Success and fulfillment is INTENTIONAL. Never forget to wake up to the reality of your dreams.

Finally, he spoke on the need to have someone (or people) that we are accountable to. People we consult before making any major decision in life; people whose hindsight is our foresight. He said, “Be weary of generals without scars”. Choose people whose records and individuals around them speak volumes of their capacity, rather than themselves.

Hope you learnt from this too? Leave a comment and share this anyway you can to friends and family. One love.

Your stories The strength, exploits, defeat and downfall of men and women are always in their stories. The strength of our stories is the programs installed inside of us to either propel us into greater heights or prepare us for abyss of life. I have come to know that the nuisance value and relevance of men alike are found in their stories. Over the years, I have learnt that every man is as good as his stories and how much of it he is able to understand, interpret, explore or deactivate for his benefits. Everyone has a story, and the content of that story is the determinant of how they act or don’t act. It’s called programs.

Programs, installed by stories have a life of their own. They have the underrated power to move from the past to form the presence. Programs are created either deliberately or by default to live forever…
